“I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in me, although he be dead, shall live.”
— John 11:25
Sacred Heart Cemetery is a sacred resting place for the faithful departed and a visible expression of our Catholic hope in the Resurrection. For generations, the Church has regarded the reverent burial of the dead as an important work of Christian charity. To bury the dead is one of the Corporal Works of Mercy, and to pray for the living and the dead is one of the Spiritual Works of Mercy.
A Catholic cemetery is therefore more than a burial ground. It is a place set apart for prayer, remembrance, and Christian hope. Here we reverently care for the bodies of those who have gone before us, remembering that the human body has been a temple of the Holy Spirit and awaits the resurrection of the dead at the coming of Christ.
When we visit the graves of our loved ones, we do more than remember them. We continue the ancient Christian practice of praying for the dead, commending them to the mercy of God and offering our prayers for the repose of their souls. The monuments and crosses of our cemetery bear quiet witness to our faith that death does not have the final word.
Sacred Heart Cemetery is located at 7320 Cairn Highway, Kewadin, Michigan. The cemetery is maintained through revenue from the sale of cemetery lots and through the generosity of individual donors. These gifts help preserve the beauty, dignity, and sacred character of the cemetery for present and future generations.
